Leaving on a Jet Plane

 October 26, 2016

By  Mandi Mack

I’m so excited and a bit nervous to be sharing this…  I AM TAKING 2 WHOLE MONTHS OFF!

It started a few years ago when I realized I needed time to re-set.  I discovered my working style is that of a sprinter,  intense fully focused bursts.

And when you continue to sprint your way through the year with multiple projects,  often over lapping you can easily get to a point of exhaustion. Or burn out, which in the past I’ve already done. Been there done that, and now for wisdom, its time to learn grow and re calibrate, and and do it differently this time!

So with the idea of loving kindness, and a desire to work with my natural cycles ( and a big thanks to my studies in Ayrveda which aligns with the natural flow of the seasons and nature and the symbolism of time to rest and rejuvenation) I devised a way to work with this pace, and it is by taking 2 months off a year.  And spacing them out so that I can maintain a practice in Calgary, leading circles, and teaching and contrast that with complete time off where I can focus on self growth, down time and learning.

This year it was a bit different, this summer, I was offered an incredible opportunity to help teach at Mount Royal University with their massage program . In order to do so I would need to shift my normal month off , which lands in August. Knowing adding this would mean I’d need to sprint a bit longer than usual. So to honor my need for rest I decided instead of omitting this missed month. That I would do something Crazy (unless your a teacher) and and take 2 months off, I would buddy it up with my other month and make it a 2 month journey!

So…

I’m going to be off on a journey. The journey this time around is going to take me to Bali , Thailand and possibly a few other places.  It’s exciting to wonder what my practice is going to look like when I return, what new and amazing new techniques and perspective I’ll have to share.  I’m planning to do more study with Thai massage and expand my yoga training , if I’m lucky connect with a shaman or two.

“I have a calling to continue to learn and grow, and a part of that journey is to take myself to new and incredible places to do just that.”

After this kind of life altering journey , it’s likely my schedule will be different when I return.

So I came up with the idea of an email list, kinda like a newsletter, where I can share updates while traveling and let everyone know when I’m back in town so we can reconnect.

What I do know is I will be offering Massage, and Womens groups, And an epic Women’s Retreat in Field BC in May 2017.
